There is a new kid on the block: Amazon Elastic Block Store
The new service fills one of the last missing links in the Amazon Webservices. It provides for persistent, high-performance, high-availability block-level storage which you can attach to a running instance of EC2.http://aws.typepad.com/aws/2008/08/amazon-elastic.html. And there is a great tutorial by Eric Hammond on how to use this new service with Mysql Running MySQL on Amazon EC2 with Elastic Block Store
